About Us
What do we believe?
We strive for an equal and just world. By creating proactive visual contracts we build a catalyst for a more human friendly and just legal system.
Law is there to let people live together and let society flourish. Contracts are the key ‘tangible product’ that connects people, business and the legal system. By helping businesses with balanced, fair, accessible and strategic contracts for growth and resilience, we stimulate businesses, human connection and legal empowerment which supports a flourishing world.
- From a business perspective our visual contracts help to implement effective strategies that drive change.
- From a technical perspective we believe in privacy by design and default, responsible AI and ethical design by default.
- Fair UX patterns opposed to dark patterns.
- From a social, sustainable and environmental impact perspective we support balanced and accessible contracts that bring the missions and strategies of impact business to practice.
- From a rule of law and access to justice perspective we believe in helping the legal system to drive innovation.

Our journey
Visual Contracts is founded in 2017 by service and UX designer Lieke Beelen (MSc. Design for Interaction at Delft University of Technology) who has been working on legal innovation since 2015 after winning the The Hague Innovators prize. Together with a lawyer they developed a new concept of the privacy statement of Facebook as a case study to explore new ways of creating accessible, understandable and engaging legal documents and making privacy more understandable to consumers. This was how Lieke rolled into the field of Legal Innovation. Since then Visual Contracts worked with UX researchers, designers, graphic designers, lawyers and developers to conduct many legal design thinking and contract design projects. In recent years Visual Contracts has been focusing on scaling up their impact through building their own legal tech product, the ‘Canva for contracts’.
